How to Measure Your Neck Circumference Measuring your neck circumference is imperative when choosing the right collar/choker size. We create our collars with the given neck circumference as the smallest size with two additional inches of room. Ex. 12" neck circumference, collar will be made to 12"-14". What You'll Need Flexible Measuring Tape: A soft, flexible tape measure (like those used for sewing) is ideal. If you don't have one, you can use a piece of string or ribbon and then measure the string with a rigid ruler or construction tape measure. Mirror (Optional but Recommended): A mirror can help you ensure the tape is level and in the correct position. Pen and Paper (Optional): To jot down your measurement. Step-by-Step Instructions Stand Up Straight: Begin by standing or sitting upright with your head facing forward in a relaxed, neutral position. Avoid tilting your head up or down. Locate the Correct Spot: The neck circumference should be measured at the midpoint of your neck, just below the Adam's apple (for men) or at the narrowest part of your neck (for women). This will be where you want the collar/choker to sit comfortably. Position the Measuring Tape: Wrap the flexible measuring tape around your neck. Ensure the tape is snug but not tight. You should be able to comfortably place one finger between the tape and your neck. Make sure the tape is level all the way around your neck. Use a mirror if needed to check the back. Read the Measurement: Bring the end of the tape measure around to meet the rest of the tape at the front of your neck. Read the number where the tape overlaps. This is your neck circumference. If you are between sizes, it's best to round up to ensure you have additional room for breathing/eating/weight fluctuations etc. If you do not have the ability/access to measure the neck circumference, our average size range is 13"-16". This is the size we've found over the thousands of chokers/collars we've made over the years that fits most individuals. D-ring Closure vs Buckle/Locking Buckle Closure: Buckle closures are adjustable while d-ring closures not non-adjustable. D-ring closures are held in place by either a ribbon tie, lock, or metal connector.
